4 Tips for Women to Overcome Insecurity

You just finished your IV nutrition therapy appointment at The Institute of Natural Health. You’re pleased with your progress towards feeling better about yourself. However, you still have long stretches of time where you feel insecure and like you’re not enough. That’s why we’re offering 4 tips for women to overcome insecurity.

Let’s get into it!

Practice Self-Love

Practicing self-love should be a part of your daily routine if you’re looking to overcome insecurity. It’s all too easy to focus on what we don’t have or what we don’t like about ourselves. We spend a lot of time and energy wishing that we were different. This is the opposite of self-love, and it leads to constantly feeling insecure.

Some self-love practices:

  • Gratitude journaling
  • Full-body meditation
  • Positive affirmations
  • Redirecting negative thoughts as they arise

Regular Self-Care Days

When was the last time you took a day for yourself? Life gets busy, but it’s important that you make time to take care of yourself. This is where self-care days come in handy. In order to feel more secure and positive about yourself, you need to allow yourself time to treat yourself. In essence, a self-care day is a gift to yourself. You deserve it!

Ideas for self-care days:

  • Spa day (manicure and pedicure included)
  • Getting creative and artsy
  • Spending time in nature
  • Taking yourself on a date night

Limit & Manage Social Media Usage

Social media use has been shown to cause an increase in stress, anxiety, and depression. In turn, it also has the potential to severely and negatively impact how we view ourselves. If you find yourself struggling with low self-esteem, it might be a sign it’s time to take a break from social media – or at least, limit and manage your use of it. Instead, find some other activities that are healthier for you when you’re tempted to start scrolling.

Healthier alternatives to social media:

  • Go for a walk outside
  • Practice yoga or Pilates
  • Read a comforting book
  • Spend quality time with friends and family

Treat Your Body with Compassion

One of the main causes of insecurity has to do with our appearance – particularly for women. We are bombarded with social media posts where women have the “perfect bodies,” and we start to look down on ourselves. We stop having compassion towards ourselves. If you’re wanting to feel more secure, it’s time you start treating your body with compassion.

Tips to treat your body with compassion:

  • Eat healthy foods most of the time
  • Practice a full body scan meditation
  • Exercise for at least 15 minutes a day (even just a walk!)
  • Keep positive notes on your mirrors affirming you’re beautiful and worthy

The Rundown

Feeling insecure can have a negative impact on your mental and physical health if not managed or treated properly. While we’ve offered a few tips on how to overcome insecurity, you might want to consider making an appointment with a mental health professional. Some insecurities are deeply rooted and need the help of a professional to help combat this draining and harmful feeling.
