Growing Energy Demand in the US

Energy demand in the United States is at an all-time high. However, experts warn that it is still not enough to match future demand, with predictions of an increase to 50% higher than current levels. Currently, the United States uses its energy in four main sectors: transportation, industrial, residential and commercial with transportation leading the usage at 37%. To keep up with demand, the country will need over 5,178 terawatt hours to keep up with demand, which is over 1,000 terawatt hours from the current level.

The rise of AI has contributed greatly to this increased need for power in the US, and servers in the country are multiplying. Also, America’s power grid is aging, meaning that energy use is often inefficient and susceptible to breakdown. It is important to improve this infrastructure to ensure optimal energy usage in the future. However, these improvements are costly, widespread and time consuming.

Experts suggest several solutions for mitigating this impending energy crisis. Exploring alternative power sources, speeding up interconnection queues and using US suppliers to improve lead times for necessary equipment can all make a difference. Overall, better infrastructure is the key to a better energy future for all, supporting clean energy, fewer outrages, and resilience against changes in climate and conditions.
