Trying to figure out how to have more fun in life?
Many people wait until they make a certain amount of money, have success at work, or find the perfect relationship, thinking then they’ll be happy.
But enjoying life is possible at any time. If you don’t take time to find happiness in everyday life, you might wait too long.
Here are five ways to have more fun.
1. Schedule Fun
It might seem like the opposite of fun to schedule it. Shouldn’t fun be spontaneous?
There’s nothing wrong with spontaneity. But many people ignore those opportunities.
One survey shows that 41% of adults feel like they don’t have enough time to do what they want. That’s no excuse to skip out on the fun in life.
Set aside time for entertaining activities. That might be time with friends, doing hobbies, or exploring your city.
2. Focus on the Positive
Ever notice how a negative person can totally change your mood?
When you experience negativity, it can affect how you feel and interfere with happiness.
Limit your exposure to negative people when possible.
For some people, avoiding the news is also beneficial. With so many negative news stories, listening to them can bring you down.
Another way to focus on the positive is to practice daily gratitude. Jot down things each day that make you feel gratitude.
3. Try New Things
If you’re stuck in a rut, you might not experience as much happiness as possible.
Find new things to do to get out of your rut.
Traveling is a good way to see new things, but you don’t have to pack your bags to explore new places. Make a list of local attractions that you haven’t visited.
Meeting new people can also increase your happiness. New people can encourage you to look at things with a new perspective.
New friends can also push you outside your comfort zone to try new things.
4. Take Control
If you let life happen to you, you’ll likely miss out on fun opportunities.
Take an active role in deciding where you spend your time, effort, and emotion.
Declutter your home, and focus on the few things that really matter.
Eliminate things that suck your energy without giving you any reward. Be selective about what you commit so your time goes to things that create happiness and fulfillment.
5. Spend Less, Do More
Focus on saving more of your money in favor of experiences over things.
Instead of going on a shopping spree, grab your family for a trek through a local forest.
Put the money you would spend on a mall trip to a weekend getaway.
Invest in a season pass to a local museum for cost-effective fun whenever you want.
The experiences bring you happiness in the moment. They also provide you with memories that you can relive to experience more happiness later.
