When was the last time you took a peek in your medicine cabinet? You might want to if you have been trying to live a healthier life. There are so many bad things you might just have in there, and so many great things that you can replace them with.
When it comes to stocking a healthier medicine cabinet you want to learn how to read the labels on everything that you buy. Pick things with natural ingredients, or buy those items you want in their natural forms. Here are a few natural items that you should be keeping stocked when it comes to your health and wellness.
Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is most commonly used when you get a sunburn, but it is excellent for use with any kinds of burns, and even some other skin issues. You can buy an actual aloe vera plant, which will give you access to fresh aloe, and is an excellent addition to your kitchen decor. They don’t even need a ton of sunlight.
If you are buying an aloe vera gel make sure you get it without alcohol. Watch for that 100 percent aloe indicator, because alcohol will dry out your skin and could add to your pain instead of helping it. Aloe vera makes a great substitute for shaving cream and is good to use in place of an antibiotic ointment for cuts and scrapes.
Peppermint
Like most natural essential oils, and the other ingredients you will want in your natural medicine cabinet, peppermint has many uses. For one, it can be a great natural way to ease an upset stomach. Make sure you are getting food grade peppermint oil if you are going to be ingesting it though. It makes a great addition to tea and even water.
Peppermint can also aid in the relief of headaches. Add some to a carrier oil and dab it behind your ears. If you don’t use a carrier oil it can burn your skin some.
Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil is commonly being used in things like mouthwash and toothpaste now because of it’s antibacterial benefits. It adds a great minty flavor to homemade mouth cleaning items, and it helps give you fresh breath.
Tea tree oil is probably best known for helping people fight acne at any age though. You can add some to a carrier oil (something clean and natural that isn’t going to clog your pores) to clean your face with if acne is an issue.
Lavender
Life is stressful and if you feel like life is getting to you, having some lavender essential oil in your medicine cabinet can be just want the doctor ordered to help you relax. Take a bath with some lavender and let your whole body relax.
You can also purchase (or make your own) lavender tea, which will let you get the calming effects of this little herbal flower.
