7 Different Types of Facelift Procedures

There are many different types of facelift procedures that are performed today. People who are interested in a facelift procedure should consult with their physician, who will be able to recommend the right one for them. These are the different types of facelifts.

Skin Only Facelift

This type of facelift procedure involves the neck and face. An incision in the hairline is made above the ear, all the way behind the ear, curving around the ear and ending in the hairline above the ear. The skin is dissected, stretched back, the excess is trimmed and the incision is closed. This is the oldest form of face-lifting but it also one of the least durable as the skin tends to stretch out over time.

Traditional Facelift

This type of facelift also concerns the neck and lower face. The surgeon makes an incision in the hairline, above the ear, then behind the ear, curving around the ear and ending in the hairline behind the ear. The skin is dissected from the fat and muscle and sutures are used to lift and reposition the muscle layer towards the ears, after which is the excess skin is removed and the incision is closed. This type of facelift provides long-lasting results.

Lower Facelift

A lower facelift procedure is a surgery which aims to remove the loose skin from the jaw line, neck, the corners of the mouth and the deeper wrinkle lines. A lower facelift procedure is aimed to make patients look younger and more refreshed.

Deep Plane Facelift

This is a modified version of the traditional facelift wherein the surgeon dissects to a deeper plane of the patient’s face before they list and reposition the muscle. People who have undergone this procedure have said that it is better than a traditional facelift as it gives a more natural looking result and improves the rejuvenation of droopy skin. However it is important to note that this technique has a higher risk of facial nerve injury.

Temporal Facelift

Temporal facelifts target the eyebrow area and surgeons use them to treat patients who have slightly droopy or lowered eyebrows. This procedure gives eyebrows a lift without performing an extensive brow lift procedure. The surgeon will make an incision during the procedure and lift the skin on the sides of the brows.

Midface Lift

This kind of facelift is relatively new and it aims to lift the soft tissue around the cheekbone area to eliminate the appearance of hanging skin as well as nasal labial folds in the middle of the face. Usually midface lifts are combines with traditional facelifts while at other times, fat transfer surgery or cheek implant surgery may be performed to achieve similar results.

Mini Facelift

Mini facelifts can be done in many different ways. Normally mini facelifts use smaller incision as compared to traditional facelifts. Healing time is also shortened. If patients have extensive wrinkling or skin looseness, this procedure isn’t for them as surgeons cannot dissect the tissue and skin as much as a traditional facelift.
