There has been a lot of nationwide buzz about the massive number of people leaving popular states such as California and New York. One of their destinations might register as a surprise: Florida. Although this state is more traditionally known for orange farming and retirement homes, there has been a huge movement recently for Americans to take advantage of the affordable housing market and the numerous job opportunities within the state. Florida has been a very popular destination especially for its cheaper houses, which are far below the market rate in other prime locations such as California and New York.
There has been an overwhelming 3.1 million people that have been moving to Florida within the last decade, which is larger than the population of 17 entire US states. Orlanda, Miami, and Tampa are the metropolitan areas that have experienced the highest growth rates throughout the state, but even much smaller municipalities have grown as well. For example, Davenport, Groveland, and Palm Springs are tiny towns that have almost doubled in size in a short amount of time. It will be incredible to see how the demographics of the state change within the next few years if the state’s growth rate continues at the same pace.
