3 Tips For Caring For Your Skin In Your 30s

In your teens, it’s common for people to experience breakouts. As you get into your twenties, you may find that your skin changes from your teenage years. And still, as your thirties approach, your skin needs different things in order to be smooth and beautiful.

But if you’ve gotten into a good routine for the last decade, you might be struggling with how to adjust to your skin and its changes as you age. So to help you with this, here are three tips for caring for your skin in your thirties.

Exfoliate More Often

When you were younger, your skin cells likely would turn over quickly to create new and healthy skin on your face and body. But as you age, your body tends to go through this process much more slowly on its own.

To deal with this, Jenn Sinrich, a contributor to Shape.com, recommends that you start exfoliating your skin more often. Generally, about twice a week should do the trick. By exfoliating more often, you’ll be able to remove more of the dead and dull skin cells that clog up your pores and make way for newer, more vibrant skin. Also, if you’re starting to use more expensive products on your face now, having clearer skin will allow your pores to really soak up whatever product you’re applying.

Wear Sunscreen Everyday

While it’s a good idea for everyone to wear sunscreen when they’re planning on spending any time outside, as you get older, you should start being even more cognizant about protecting your skin from the harsh rays of the sun.

Sun exposure can cause your skin to start aging prematurely, not to mention opening you up to potential issues with uneven skin tone and skin cancer. Because of this, Renee Rouleau, a contributor to Refinery29.com, advises that you wear some sunscreen on your face and neck each day, regardless of how much time you’ll be out in the sun. For best results, try to use a product that’s going to be lightweight on your skin.

Maintain Moisture

Moisture is one thing that your skin really starts to lose as you get into your thirties. But luckily, there are a lot of different products you can try to give your skin the exact balance of moisture that it needs.

One thing you may not be realizing is leeching some of that moisture out, though, is your pillowcase. Each night when you sleep, your cotton pillowcase drains moisture from your skin. To keep this from happening to you, Crystal Martin, a contributor to New York Magazine, suggests that you get a silk pillowcase instead, since silk won’t take as much moisture out of your skin when your face is pressed against it.

If you’re in your thirties and are unsure about how to alter your skincare routine, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you come up with something that will work for you.
