6 Summer Activities to Give You a Great Workout

When Summer arrives, you want to spend as much time as you can outside. While you’re out there, why not get in a good workout? There are plenty of exercises you can do out in the nice Summer weather that will give you a great workout. Here are some ideas you can use to get started:

Go for a Swim

Swimming is one of the best workouts you can give yourself, no matter the time of year. However, there’s nothing quite like jumping into a cool pool or lake on a hot summer day. Swimming laps works out several areas of your body. You’ll get to workout your core, arms, legs, shoulders, and back all with one exercise. If you’re looking for a total body workout, while also cooling yourself off during the Summer heat, swimming is the way to go. Here are some swim training sets you can use to start your workout routine.

Take a Bike Ride

If you’re looking for a cardio burn, biking is an excellent choice in the Summer. With the temperatures warmer in the Summer, your body will work up more of a sweat while you’re biking. It will help you burn more calories and therefore lose more weight. However, just be sure that the temperatures aren’t too warm when you go for a ride. You don’t want to get overheated and injure yourself. Also be sure to bring plenty of water so that you can keep yourself hydrated. Biking is great because all you really need is a bike and a helmet, so grab yours and hit the roads this Summer.

Go Kayaking

Back in the water, kayaking can give you a great upper body workout. Kayaking lets you explore some bodies of water near you and will help you to keep cool on hot Summer days. When you go kayaking, be sure to bring plenty of sunscreen and bug spray to keep your trip enjoyable. Pushing yourself through the water takes a lot of upper body strength, so be ready to give your arms and shoulders a good workout.

Try Out Paddleboarding

Staying in the water, another great workout you can get is with paddleboarding. Paddleboarding is when you get a big paddleboard – it resembles a surfboard – and stand up on it, using a large paddle to guide yourself forward. This activity works out your arms, shoulders and even your core, providing a pretty complete workout. Best of all, when the heat gets too much, you can simply jump into the water to cool off. To get started, you can get your first paddleboard from a site like PaddleBoardDirect.com

Go for a Hike

Next up, we have hiking. No matter where you live in the country, chances are there are several good hiking trails within driving distance. Hiking is a great cardio workout that also works out your legs and core. Depending on where you live, you could hike up to some amazing viewpoints or discover some hidden gems within your area. At the very least you’ll get some great exercise and away from the bustle of everyday life for a few hours. To find some hiking trails near you, you can visit this site

Do Some Yoga

Finally, we have yoga. Yoga is great all year round, but the Summer weather allows you to do it outside. Doing yoga outside provides a different experience and can even help you burn more calories. Doing yoga is great for losing weight as it is, but doing it outside in the heat can make it even better. You can start doing yoga no matter your current athletic ability or experience, making it perfect for beginners. It also works out every muscle group, providing an excellent total body workout.

Find the Workout That’s Best for You

Summer provides plenty of opportunities to exercise outside, but not every activity mentioned above will be right for you. Maybe you don’t like swimming, or there’s no bodies of water nearby to go kayaking. The key is to think about what activities you like to do, then see if there’s a way you can do them outside. The weather in the Summer is often too nice to stay inside and get a workout there. Even if you just move one or two of your normal workouts from the gym to outside, it can make a big difference. Hopefully the above suggestions will get your mind working, and you’ll be able to find some activities you love to do this Summer, while also giving yourself a good workout.
