Are you committed to sustainability? Maybe you already make purchasing choices that reflect your commitment to the planet. Are you aware of the benefits of using goat milk soap? Goat milk soap is one option that’s not only better for our environment than commercial soaps, but also for your skin.
AHAs
When dead skin cells build up, your complexion can not only look dull, but the accumulation can contribute to clogged pores and the formation of pimples and acne. Goat milk contains alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs). AHAs have a mildly exfoliating effect, and because of this, products with AHAs are typically effective in producing smooth, fresh skin. They are often used to address skin conditions like age spots, scarring, and hyperpigmentation.
Essential Fatty Acids
Fatty acids are required in our diets in order for our skin to prevent inflammation, repair itself, and sustain moisture. If these essential fatty acids are absorbed and taken into the bloodstream, it is theoretically possible that applying them topically could benefit the skin as well. While additional studies are needed, it has been clearly proven that not stripping skin of its natural emollients when washing away excess oil and dirt protects the skin and keeps it healthier.
Both dry skin and oily skin can be damaged by soaps that destroy this moisture barrier. When your skin is dried out, the moisture barrier is not in place and trans epidermal water loss is experienced. This can allow the spread of bacteria, cause more acne, and your skin will try to counteract the dryness by producing more oil. This extra oil can cause blocked pores, leading to more pimples and acne cysts, and perpetuating a cycle of breakouts.
For this reason, it’s important to use a cleansing product that maintains your skin’s natural moisture barrier. Organic goat soaps are high in several types of fatty acids, particularly palmitic acid, stearic acid, and oleic acid. Because of the essential fatty acids in goat’s milk, your skin is not stripped of its natural moisture barrier. When you rinse the soap off of your face, the moisture in your skin remains intact while the dirt is rinsed away.
Non-Irritating
Commercial soaps are mass produced and full of chemicals. These chemicals are known to cause hormone imbalances, cancer, allergies, and other damage to our health. Most commercial soaps are not formulated to protect sensitive skin and can cause dryness and allergic reactions. Goat milk has anti-inflammatory properties which help soothe irritated skin and protect healthy skin because of its fat molecule content and natural emollients. Organic goat milk soap can be used by those with sensitive skin without bumps, dryness, or irritation issues. No fillers, dyes, synthetic fragrances, GMO, parabens, chemicals, alcohol or other chemicals are used in organic goat milk soaps.
Green
There is a large amount of toxic chemicals collecting in the water that feeds our rivers, lakes, and oceans. In addition to the damage done to our ecosystem, studies are documenting birth defects and liver damage in animals as a result of this chemical contamination. Plastic containers from these soaps, shampoos, and washes are filling up our landfills. Using goat milk soap, which comes in bar form and has no plastic container, is just one more way you can help protect the health and longevity of our planet.
