The process of staying in shape is often looked at as something that is not enjoyable as the sore feeling for many people can deter them from even trying. What many people do not realize is that you can get into shape while having a great time. You will have to think outside of the box to do so but it is more than possible. Having fun can help distract you from the fact that you are actually exercising. This can be much more entertaining than simply sitting on a stationary bike or running on a treadmill for 30 minutes to an hour. The following are some fun activities that will also help you get into great shape.
Pickup Basketball is a Great Workout
Those who have participated in pickup basketball know how tired you can be at the end of a game. You do not have to be a great basketball player to play in a regular pickup game at your local gym or park. The one thing that you must do is know your role as well as your strengths and weaknesses. If you haven’t been practicing shooting you should probably limit your shots to layups and shots in the paint. The most important thing to do is wear the right shoes with proper ankle support. You are trying to get into shape and not injure yourself which will just set you back in your quest to get the body that you want.
Play Dodgeball With Friends
Getting together with friends to play dodgeball can be one of the most fun things you did not know that you were missing. All you have to do is find a court whether it is a racquetball court or basketball courts. Next you need some dodgeballs to throw at each other. You will have a great time while working on your agility as well as your throwing form. The competitive nature of the game will have you playing for hours without realizing it. There is nothing like good fun to help you get into the shape that you desire.
Long Bike Rides With Friends or Family
Weekends can be used to get into shape while spending quality time with friends and family. A conversation can see you biking a few miles without even realizing it. This is a healthy alternative to sitting on the couch watching whatever random sporting event is on. Make sure that you pick a great bike trail that is wide enough for everyone to bike next to each other. If you do not have a bike you can get a used one online via Craigslist or other online platform. Map your route correctly and you can even add a stop for lunch but make sure you eat healthy!
Go For a Nature Hike or Walk
Nature can be a beautiful place to get into shape whether you are taking a nature walk or going for a more intense hike. Find a great place to walk or hike then put it into a part of your routine. People have found that spending time in nature actually can make them healthier both mentally and physically. Get the right footwear if you are going to go on an intense hike so you can avoid rolling your ankle. Hiking boots will make the hike much more manageable and will avoid you hurting your foot on a sharp rock or incline.
As you can see you do not have to sit in the gym day after day to get into great shape. You can have fun with all of these activities plus them being free makes these an even better option!
