How to Detox Your Body After the Holidays

How to Detox Your Body After the Holidays

We all know during the holidays we tend to pig out and eat and drink a lot more than we normally would. This is no reason to feel guilty and is what happens when family and friends get together and celebrate. Sometimes when we are getting back into our normal routine, we can feel a bit more sluggish and bloated after the overindulgence. If you feel as though you are ready to detoxify your body and lose the extra holiday pounds, here’s how to do so, safely.

Cleanse

A great way to begin detoxifying your body is through a cleanse. This can involve choosing nutritious and high vitamin and mineral foods to allow our bodies to work at their best to remove toxins from our body and lose weight in the process or follow a specific cleanse program. This may involve juices and supplements as well as clean meals. Juicing alone cannot guarantee a healthy balance of everything you need and once you start eating meals again after a juice cleanse you will more than likely put on the weight you lost.

Exercise and Relaxation

Exercise is a great way to release serotonin, the hormone that can make us feel happier and better within ourselves. 30 minutes of exercise each day is enough to get your heart pumping and make you feel better both physically and mentally. Find a form of exercise you enjoy as you are more likely to continue to do it than if it feels like a chore. Relaxation is something a lot of us find hard with the stressors of modern life and technology. Find time each day to relax and meditate, or you may want to give yoga a go.

Water

One of the best ways to detoxify our bodies and feel more alert and hydrated is to drink water, and lots of it. Just drinking water can have many health benefits including more hydrated and healthier skin. This means no coffee or juice, unless you can’t function without your morning coffee. We are made of around 60% water and therefore we need it for many bodily functions including producing saliva and removing waste and toxins. If you find you don’t like the taste of water, you can infuse it with your favorite fruits including lemons, limes and strawberries.

Ditch the Alcohol

Many of us consume a lot more alcohol than usual over the holiday period as there are more outings and lots of us have time off work, meaning we can let our hair down more. Ridding yourself of alcohol for a while can help your body recuperate and make you feel healthier. This is also a great time to quit smoking, another toxin that causes harm to our body.

Detoxifying your body is about choosing a healthier way of living and making life choices that will carry on after your detox and cleanse. Choosing healthier foods and drinking water is the main way to help us ditch that bloated feeling we get after the holidays and is the perfect time to hit the gym.
