Tips for Staying Healthy While Traveling

When traveling for work or for pleasure, staying healthy should be one of your priorities.  But staying healthy while on the go can be difficult.  Luckily, there are some things that you can do to protect your health.  Today, we are going to learn some tips that will guide you in the right direction.

Utilize Walk-in Medical Clinics

If you are out of town and away from your family doctor and you get sick, try to avoid going to the ER.  Instead, try to find a walk in medical clinic that will see you.  This will save you lots of time and an expensive bill from the hospital.  Many of these clinics offer 24-hour services and have doctors on staff around the clock.  So if you get sick, you can often just walk in off the street without an appointment.  While you may have to wait awhile, you will get to see a qualified doctor who can prescribe you medication.  These clinics are also great for the whole family and you can carry your kids there if they come down with a fever while on vacation.

Remember to Pack Your Medications

While packing for your trip, make sure you place all your medications in your luggage as well.  Remember to leave them in their original bottles with your name and address.  In most states, keeping medications in their original bottles is the law.  Also, make sure to get your medications refilled before you hit the road so that you will have enough to last you while you are not at home.  For more information on how to pack your medication for travel, please check out this link.  Here you will find tips for packing your medication while traveling on an airplane.

Get Travelers Medical Insurance

If you are traveling outside of the United States, make sure that you sign up for traveler’s medical insurance, especially if you don’t have normal health insurance.  This will help protect you from paying high fees at hospitals and protect your health at the same time.  Unlike hospitals in the US, some foreign hospitals can refuse to treat you if you don’t have insurance or the money to pay for services.  This is why having traveler’s insurance is so important!  For more information on how to prepare for international travel, please check out this website.

These helpful tips will keep you safe and healthy while traveling.  If you do get sick while traveling, try and avoid the ER and go to a walk-in clinic instead.  This will save you lots of money and your wait to see a doctor will probably be much shorter.  Also, pack all your medications before you leave and check with your doctor if you need any refills.  If you don’t have regular insurance, make sure to get some travelers insurance before you head off to another country. Lastly, check whether you need any inoculations.  Most importantly, remember to have fun and enjoy your time away from home.
