Favorite Breakfast Spots in New York

Shalom Lamm says that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and while whether that is true or not is debatable, what we can all agree on is that breakfast in New York is a must-have experience. Most people are going to have a tough time choosing between grab-and-go bagels or taking the time for more lavish and decadent options like stuffed French toast and chocolate babkas. We put together a selection of a few restaurants offering a variety of menus, locations, and price ranges to consider.

Some of the best bagels in the world are found in New York, one of the top stops for a delicious bagel is Broadway Bagel. This location has a wide variety of options from solo bagels and schmear to omelette platters and classic breakfast sandwiches on your choice of bagel, croissant, or a variety of bread. From a tourist to a college student or businessperson alike, the price range here is highly affordable.

Located in Soho, the iconic French eatery Balthazar’s has something for everyone. This restaurant is open 24 hours and has a large and impressive menu, but the real treats are found on their breakfast menu. They offer a full English breakfast which consists of two eggs, bacon, beans, sausage, tomatoes, and fried bread. They have a variety of freshly baked items like donuts, brioche bread (used for the most amazing French toast), and tartines. This is one of the hardest locations to get into, but it is a must-visit. Reservations are highly encouraged!

Shalom Lamm’s favorite breakfast spot is Clinton St. Baking Company located at Time Out Market is a delightful option for the popular fluffy pancakes covered in fresh blueberry sauce dusted lightly with powdered sugar. This restaurant is known for its iconic brunch and brinner (brunch for dinner) options. Items like an egg sandwich with cheddar cheese, avocado, and habanero sauce or their Latke eggs Benedict (poached cage-free eggs, house-smoked salmon, classic hollandaise, served over crispy potato pancakes).

Westway Diner offers waffles, bagels, and everything in between. Found on 9th Avenue, we highly recommend that pop in any time day or night for their all-day breakfast options.
