Sneaky Diabetes: 5 Warning Signs of Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 diabetes is, unfortunately, one of the most prevalent health issues that the average American faces. While meds are available to make this disease easier to live with, it is still a disease you wouldn’t want to have. It also has significant complications that come with it, which is why you should try hard to look out for the warning signs of it and take action when they do come.

In order to watch out for these warnings, though, you need to know what they are. It’s also important to understand how these symptoms are connected to diabetes. So, here are 5 warning signs of type 2 diabetes that you should look out for.

1. Frequent Urination

Do you find yourself waking up often in the middle of the night to pee, or seem to spend more time going to the bathroom? Frequent urination is the most common of all the warning signs of type 2 diabetes.

With few other diseases attributed to frequent urination, this is the warning sign you should look out for most. The cause of this frequent urination is typically our body trying to urinate in order to rid itself of the excess sugars that diabetics can’t process.

2. Tiredness

Without our body processing the sugars we take into our bloodstream, we begin to feel tired. If you have found yourself getting more easily tired after physical activity or just during the day, this too may be a warning sign.

3. Bleeding Gums

Our dental health can often be a mirror of our overall health, and diabetes is a good example of this. When your body has very high blood sugar levels, it promotes decay of our teeth and gums. This may increase the likelihood that your gums end up bleeding when brushing.

Be sure to look further into bleeding gums and diabetes if you believe you have this symptom.

4. Increased Thirst and Hunger

Diabetics often do not get enough energy from the food they eat and need to urinate more often to release this added sugar waste. For that reason, diabetics are typically hungry and thirsty more often.

If you have found yourself reaching for a snack or drinking a lot of water, you should ask a doctor to look into your blood sugar levels.

5. Blurry Vision

One of the scarier symptoms of diabetes, blurry vision is an issue that many diabetics face and can be a very serious problem depending on the severity of it. With increased blood sugar levels, some of the first things to be affected are the tiny blood vessels in our eyes.

If you do not get treatment, these blood vessels may become so damaged that you may experience permanent vision loss.

Other Warning Signs of Type 2 Diabetes

While these are the most common warning signs of type 2 diabetes, there are others. These may include tingling in your extremities, patchiness in the skin, and even yeast infections.

If you feel you may have diabetes, be sure to see a doctor for a blood sugar check right away.
