The Different Professions in the Field of Law

There are so many professional careers one can pursue upon their graduation from law school. Examples include but are not limited to legal instructor, contracts administrator, human resources, financial officer, mediator, FBI agent, magistrate judge, and of course, attorney.

Each of these professions has a better starting salary than the national average and multiple opportunities for advancement in the future. The average salary of a criminal lawyer in the United States is $78,000. Moreover, jobs within the field of law are increasingly needed because to date, it is estimated that around 750,000 people are currently employed as lawyers and over 100 million cases are tried every single year in the U.S. alone.

Diego Ruiz Duran is a prime example of an individual who has found their passion in law. He first started his academic career in law with the Escuela Libre de Derecho and then transitioned to obtaining a master’s degree from the University of Oxford. For years he also studied at the University of Harvard, University of Cambridge, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After all this education he finally settled on becoming a defense attorney. His decisioning was greatly due to his passion and appreciation for both criminal and constitutional law.

Later in life, Duran founded his own law firm titled Bufete Ruiz Duran SC. His firm is one of the most prestigious in Mexico and deals daily with several high-profile Mexican clients. He claims that he simply loves his job as a defense attorney because it pushes him. Every day presents a new and exciting challenge that allows him to grow in his personal skill and knowledge.

Duran once quoted that, “Being a lawyer is not an easy career choice, but it was a passionate one. I enjoy helping people and I am proud to be successful in court. The pressure only makes my job that much more rewarding when we win a case.” This passion and drive is one that not all attorneys obtain, but several strive to one day achieve.

Diego Ruiz Duran says that he’s very appreciative of all the hard work he put in back in law school because he sees the benefits of that work daily. So many long nights memorizing statutes, recalling precious cases, and studying for exams have allowed his knowledge of law to become one of excellence. This whole-hearted understanding of Mexican constitutional and criminal law have given him the extra edge over prosecutors and has therefore contributed extensively to his success.

Duran’s climb to success was one that required great perseverance and passion. Nevertheless, his achievements today do not cease to inspire the rising generation of law students. His impactful leadership has shifted the tide of Mexican law which is notable for its corruption and historically high 95% of criminal verdicts being convicted. It is clear that Duran has been a stellar contributor to society and that his actions have caused many people to plan to follow in his footsteps.
