How Helen Lee Schifter is Staying Positive During the Pandemic

The world has now been facing numerous obstacles and setbacks due to the coronavirus pandemic for over a year now. Patience for many is wearing thin and people are desperate to return to normalcy. But even with millions of people vaccinated, we are still not out of the woods yet when it comes to Covid. For Helen Lee Schifter, these times have certainly tested her optimistic spirit and hopefulness that things will in fact get better.However, instead of focusing on the negative, Schifter still chooses to wake up every day with a positive attitude. 

As a former arbitrage trader on Wall Street, Schifter has lived a very successful life. After graduating from Phillips Exeter Academy and Amherst College,  she was an editor at Hearst and Condé Nast and she currently resides in New York City. Like many, she was deeply concerned when the pandemic first hit the city back in 2020. When reflecting on how stressful those times were, she said, “The devastation that Covid-19 has wrought on the public has been unprecedented. Nearly everybody knows of at least someone who has been lost to this nightmare pandemic. With so many lives lost, many have wisely used this time as a reminder to not take one’s health for granted, and to recalibrate our priorities. Going through introspection is critical for the mental and emotional well being of any human being. It’s a process that affords us the opportunity to consider what we’re focused on.” Despite all of the panic and anxiety millions of people are going through, Helen Lee Schifter always wants to remind people to stay grateful and optimistic. 

Here are a few ways Helen Lee Schifter occupies herself and keeps her positive mindset during the Covid-19 pandemic:

  1. Meditation

Schifter enjoys meditating because it helps her body come to a very calm and relaxing state. She believes that people can benefit from the various breathing techniques and quietness of the mind. 

  1. Journaling

After a long and stressful day in quarantine, Helen Lee Schifter enjoys winding down and releasing all of her pent up frustrations by writing in her journal. She views it as being therapeutic and a healthy way to help her let go of tension and return to a positive state of mind.

  1. Exercise 

Whether it is running on a treadmill, following an online yoga class or just lifting some free weights in your living room, exercise is a great way to keep the mind, body and soul happy. Schifter prefers to exercise bright and early in the morning to get her day started on the right note.

  1. Zoom Meetings with Family 

Distance can weigh heavy on the heart. On days when Helen Schifter is feeling extra isolated during quarantine, she likes to call her close family members to lift her spirits. This is a great way to remind people that we’re in this together even when we’re far apart from each other. 

Even though the world has faced unprecedented times in the past year and continues to live with the coronavirus day after day, life is still something we should cherish and appreciate. Helen Lee Schifter is extremely grateful toward all of the healthcare professionals on the frontlines. She recognizes their strength throughout these stressful circumstances and is committed to doing her part to help slow the spread.
